The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has received a major donation of food and non-food items from the United Methodist Church (UMC) to support its ongoing humanitarian response for Zimbabwean citizens returning from South Africa.
The consignment was officially handed over to the ZCC in Harare recently, in a gesture the council described as a powerful demonstration of solidarity in times of crisis.
Since June 2026, thousands of Zimbabweans have been returning home, and the ZCC has been on the frontlines complementing Government efforts to ensure a safe, dignified return and reintegration.
Working through its network of member churches and in close collaboration with multisectoral Government teams coordinated by the Civil Protection Department, the ZCC has been providing critical support at the port of entry in Beitbridge and at temporary waiting centres across the country.
The support includes: food and personal hygiene items, bus fare to final destinations, health support and psychosocial care and spiritual accompaniment for families in need
“ZCC is grateful to the United Methodist Church for answering the call and standing in solidarity with returning citizens,” the Council said. “This gesture is a testament to the role of the Church beyond the pulpit, demonstrating faith through actions that uphold dignity, safety, and hope.”
The donation added to ongoing efforts by Government and partners to provide immediate relief while supporting long-term reintegration for returnees.
