Unlike other months of the year that carry important Christin events like Easter, Pentecost and Christmas, August has no such event but remains an important month of the Christian calendar.
In some parts of the world, in some countries it’s a harvest season. Biblically, it’s a time to thank God as Psalm 65:11 says, “You crown the year with your goodness.” We have sound and interesting testimonies of God’s faithfulness as we drift towards the year end.
In some churches, the great Transfiguration story is marked on 6 August. This means the mountain top experience is real. Despite the Lake Kariba and Chivu disasters giving us grief, we look to God who can reveal his glory and strength for each day. God will see us through the valley experience.
In some churches, August is a month of remembering martyrs celebrating their faithfulness of the saints. They lost because they lived faithfully as Revelations 12:11 says, “They did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.”
August is also a month of preparations of the heart for the last four months of the year. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
As we reflect August, it is a month that transfigures our worries and pains, feeds the world from the harvest and calls us to walk in faith.
