Twenty-seven Christians of the African Apostolic Church denomination based in Dema, Seke, have been called home when the vehicle they were travelling in, Ndarikure in Mvuma bound, for worship, collided head on with a South African haulage truck, near Honeyspruit Bridge along Masvingo road, with an impact that resulted in the xx catching fire and bodies burnt beyond recognition Friday 28 August 2026.
As we mourn our beloved friends, we bow our hearts to them as they died on duty, left home with Bibles in their hands, songs of praise on their lips and hearts, with their feet and mind set for worship, but never made it to the worship venue. They have been called home whilst on assignment for our Lord, going to praise, pray and serve. Their last gesture was of obedience to the call of God.
To the families that have lost their beloved ones, there is hope beyond the crash because there is eternal life after resurrection. We pray that our faithful God of peace, who called our relatives whilst on the way, now welcome them home.
We are in a broken world, where accidents, sickness and deaths are part of a fallen world. God is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).
We have so many questions but we believe, “in all things God works for the good of those who love him,” as Romans 8:28 says. This does not mean our relatives lacked faith or sinners, it does not mean God was angry nether does it mean worship is dangerous. It means we serve God who is with us through death. We therefore, pray more, w love our families better. God promised to bring comfort to those in pain.
We pray that Zimbabwean roads become safe for everyone and everywhere. Roads must be safer for everyone rather than devouring those who go onto it with joy and confidence of their destination.
The month of August has seen many being called home unexpectedly. This tragedy comes when Zimbabweans are still mourning the Lake Kariba disaster where more than 95 people perished when the Nehanda vessel capsized with 77 surviving.
May God comfort a friend, child, mother, husband and a father who has been left because of this tragedy. His mercies are new every morning.
