Isaiah 58:9 offers a profound promise regarding prayer and God’s response: “Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am.
If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity.”

This verse highlights the connection between righteous living and answered prayer. It assures us that when we call upon the Lord in prayer, He will not only hear us but also respond to us, saying,
“Here I am.”
However, there is a condition attached to this promise – the removal of certain negative behaviors from our midst.
The “yoke” represents oppression or injustice inflicted upon others, whether through exploitation, discrimination, or abuse of power. Removing this yoke involves seeking justice and acting with fairness and compassion towards others.
“The putting forth of the finger” refers to blaming or accusing others, instead of taking responsibility for our own actions. It entails refraining from judgmental attitudes and practicing humility and forgiveness.
“Speaking vanity” encompasses empty or deceitful speech, including lies, gossip, and slander. It involves speaking truthfully and edifying words that build up others rather than tearing them down.
As we reflect on this verse, let us examine our own lives and attitudes. Are there areas where we need to remove the yoke of oppression, stop pointing fingers, or cease speaking vanity?
Let us seek to live righteously and honorably before God and others, knowing that our actions have a direct impact on the effectiveness of our prayers.

Amen.
