Last Thursday, Dadaya High School in Zvishavane was battered by a fierce hailstorm, leaving behind a scene of utter destruction.
The storm, accompanied by powerful winds, mercilessly tore through the school grounds, demolishing two classroom blocks, two hostels, and an administration building.

More than 100 students were left stranded as the storm ripped off roofs and caused chaos. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries among the students, though the extent of the damage is severe.
Mr. Gevas Churume, the school’s Headmaster, expressed relief that no harm befell the students.
“Although we had no injuries caused to the students, the storm blew away classroom roofs and houses that were sheltering students. Huge trees were also uprooted in the vicinity of the school,” he stated.
Zvishavane District Development Coordinator, Mr. Darlington Chokera, acknowledged the gravity of the situation.
“I received the sad news about Dadaya High, which was destroyed by a storm, and our CPU team is on the ground to see how best we can assist the school. I am told that the storm destroyed classrooms and hostels,” he remarked.

This calamitous event compounds the recent onslaught of heavy rains and destructive weather patterns across the country, exacerbating damage to properties and infrastructure.
As the Civil Protection Unit evaluates the scale of the devastation, efforts are underway to provide essential support and aid to the affected school and its community.
