At the ongoing 67th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in Vienna, Austria, Zimbabwe emphasized its unwavering commitment to international coordination in tackling the pandemic of drug trafficking.
Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe, stressed the imperative nature of this collaborative effort, given the transnational nature of drug trafficking.
Highlighting Zimbabwe’s collaborative initiatives with international organizations like the UNODC, Minister Kazembe outlined comprehensive strategies aimed at combating the illicit drug crisis.
These strategies include the establishment of a National Taskforce on Drug and Substance Abuse, spearheaded by President E.D. Mnangagwa, and focused on various pillars such as Supply Reduction, Demand Reduction, and Treatment and Rehabilitation.

Moreover, Zimbabwe unveiled plans to establish a National Drug and Substance Agency, slated to be fully operational by the end of 2024, demonstrating the nation’s proactive approach to addressing the drug epidemic.
Additionally, a minimum of US$1.5 million has been allocated towards the nation’s drug and substance abuse programs for the current year, underscoring Zimbabwe’s commitment to combating this multifaceted challenge on both national and global fronts.
