The workshop’s primary objective was to holistically empower young people with entrepreneurship skills, practical life skills, and a deeper understanding of God’s word, addressing their multifaceted needs and preparing them for success in both personal and professional spheres. By targeting youths from underrepresented communities, the conference aimed to bridge the gap in opportunities and resources, expanding these young people’s horizons and enabling them to become active contributors to their communities.
The skills imparted during the workshop are crucial in today’s fast-paced world, as they enable young people to think critically, innovate, and adapt to changing circumstances. These skills matter because they form the foundation of empowered nations that can sustain themselves, driving economic growth, social cohesion, and community development.
Sandra, a social worker who was also a facilitator, spoke after the event and emphasised the critical role of the church in empowering young people, stating, “The church is aiding government and civil society efforts to empower youths and is working tirelessly in the grassroots to ensure youths are not left behind.” She highlighted that these efforts often get overlooked compared to food handouts, yet they form the foundation of empowered nations. “This is what our country needs more of, developmental social work is crucial as it addresses the root causes of social issues and empowers individuals to become agents of change,” she added.
