Open Christian University (OCU) honored 16 individuals from across Africa with Honorary Doctorate degrees in Humanity and Sciences, and awarded Diploma certificates to 13 others in chaplaincy during a virtual graduation ceremony on April 30, 2026.
The recipients were recognized for their impactful work in positively changing lives globally. Professor Sixbert, President of Open Christian University, encouraged graduates to use their credentials to drive development, promote peace, and unite communities worldwide.
“The credentials are just a stepping stone,” Professor Sixbert said. “Remain humble, hardworking, and determined to fulfill the great ministry ahead.”
Dr. Munei Nyoni, Chairperson for the African region, praised the recipients, urging them to build nations through family, community, and national interventions. “Spread the good news about the kingdom of Jesus Christ,” he said.
Among the honored were Senator Dr. Annah Shiri, a vocal advocate for disability rights, who challenged communities to increase persons with disabilities’ inclusion, saying, “As communities, let us make sure that we support persons with disabilities, let us upscale their inclusion and representation in all sectors, and above all, let us empower them so that they become self-sustaining.”
Dr. Pick Nkomwa from Gwanda said, “This recognition means a lot to our work. We will unite people, preach peace, address gender-based violence, and provide counseling in Gwanda.”
The ceremony celebrated individuals who have made a difference, inspiring others to follow suit. The ceremony targeted individuals in Zimbabwe and Kenya, and in Zimbabwe, graduates were attending the ceremony gathering in Harare.
