Youths have been encouraged to shun evil and to have a sound fellowship with God by presenting their bodies to God to be used for righteous purposes.
In his sermon at the recently held prayer event, which was hosted by Teen Rescue Mission (TRM) in Chitungwiza for young people, Pastor Marlvin Ngiza iterated the significance of the word of God in one’s life saying that it is the manual guide which can help young people win against drug abuse, sexual immorality and youth crimes.
“Romans 6:11 says Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
“As young people we should understand that the devil comes to destroy our future and our destinies by deceiving us with drugs. Let us be rooted in the word of God so that it will sustain and guide us on what we should be doing in our everyday lives,” he said.
Speaking at the same occasion, TRM Director Abraham Matuka warned young people against bad associations and encouraged parents to closely monitor their children movements while encouraging societies to report all drug peddlers.
“We will continue to fight against drug and substance abuse in our community. As the third learning terms begins, let us as young people remember that there is a future for us and for our nation and it requires all of us to be responsible and to be mindful of our actions so that we will not ruin it.
“Let us collectively work together to eradicate the use of illicit drugs by our young people. To all young people let us shun drug abuse, to all parents let us monitor our children and report all drug dealers that we might be knowing operating in our societies,” said Matuka.
One of the beneficiaries said “I am happy to have attended today’s prayer event. It was very uplifting, I had time to pray for my life. I believe that prayer is also needed to fight against these ills since it is sometimes evil spirits can also push people into immorality. As young people we were also taught to work using our hands so that we do not remain idle,” she said.
The prayer event was running under the theme “May God protect our young people” and was attended by learners, parents and other faith leaders.
