Schools around Magunje, battled it out on 24 July 2026 at Magunje High School, fighting for supremacy in the sporting arena in honour of the late Mr Alec Maguta Kusemamuriwo, a visionary, compasionate, inovative and pioneering businessman, with Magunje Barracks High School dominating, Chisape High School being crowned the soccer champions, an event whose guest of honour, Honourable Member of Parliament, Supa Monga Madiro conducting the victory ceremony.
“We honour you for taking part in Kusemamuriwo Sports Day, when we cherish our late father who had a heart for this community. This event is a gesture o ploughing back to the community through the unifying force of various sport disciplines and in so doing talent is developed and scouted.
“Our father left a legacy that we can not ignore, he was a champion of development in this area and we gather today to celebrate a life for others well lived, and such a legacy must not die,”said Tafadzwa Kusemamuriwo, a family representative.
He further implored other business people to come on board and plough back to develop Magunje comnumity.
” We are doing this not because our father was a succesful businessman neither are we, but it is a legacy and and appreciation of this community to grow.
“How good will it be, if more business people join in making this event big and better,” said Tafadzwa.
Kusemamuriwo family are Salvation Army members who have invested in catering, transport and agriculture.
The event was attendend by various departments that include police, hospital and others.
“We thank the Kusemamuriwo family for bringing together schools and community, a gesture of ploughing back to the community and a youth empowerment programme,” said the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education representative.
Magunje Barrack High School scooped first awards in volley ball, netball. Chisape High school won the soccer championship.
The late businessman Mr Kusemamuriwo is remembered for his success in pionering hotel and catering business, bakery provisions and a heart for developing Magunje.
Winners got trophies and prize money. The following schools took part in Kusemamuriwo Sports Day 2026 edition; Magunje Government High School, Maumbe High School, Charles Clack High School , Chisape High School and Magunje Barrack High School.
