Harare-based prophetess, Sikhanyisiwe Sammie, Director of The Vine International Prayer Group, has launched a resolute campaign against the pervasive influence of the Manjuzu (marine spirit) on the streets of Harare.
This initiative, named the “Financial Breakthrough,” witnessed numerous women being delivered before receiving the speed of Jehu (Jehu, a figure from biblical history, was known for his fast and furious driving. In 2 Kings 9:20, it is mentioned that “Their force and speed is as fierce as the crazy driving of Jehu, Nimshi’s son) to counter the influence of this spiritual culture.

The term “Manjuzu” refers to a belief in a mermaid spirit that is thought to bestow wealth and a good life upon its worshippers. This belief has gained popularity, particularly among young individuals. The concept is associated with various rituals and practices, and it is often discussed in the context of its influence on people’s lives, including reports of individuals being swept away by strong water currents.
Prophetess’s decision follows a surge in distressing reports from individuals seeking her assistance. Many of these individuals expressed a desire to break free from the demanding initiation, citing its overwhelming nature. Reports have also surfaced of businesses being overtaken and financial resources being bound by the malevolent spirits, prompting the prophetess to take a stand against their influence.
During the service, Prophetess Sammie addressed the congregation, acknowledging the troubling impact of the Manjuzu spirit on believers.
She expressed, “The Manjuzu spirit is real and is troubling the believers out there. Many people are coming to me with bad news which this spirit has caused in their lives. Some have reported that their businesses are no longer operating well, while others have expressed concerns about their husbands being influenced by the initiated people. But today, as we are gathered here, I am feeling a heavy flow of power within me. When the power is present, the issue of Manjuzu is too small.”
She also warned of the spirit’s propensity to lead individuals astray, causing them to miss their deliverance. She declared her opposition to the dominance of the marine spirit in Harare, vowing to stand against its encroachment.
“When your time of deliverance from this place comes, this spirit makes you go astray so that you miss your deliverance. There are a lot of people who are being troubled by this spirit. Today, I declare against this marine spirit, which wants to dominate in Harare.”

“We do not kill a spirit, but because of the power I have, I can rest and silence them wherever they come from, only with the name of Jesus Christ.”
One attendee, Mandipazveishe, gave a compelling testimony, affirming the reality of the spirit’s influence. She urged parents and teachers to exercise caution within schools, noting that some children are exhibiting intentions contrary to their education.
