Let’s look at the book of Philippians for an example.
Philippians 4:4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”
The Apostle Paul wrote these words while in prison. He was facing persecution and hard times, yet he still found joy in the Lord.
That’s a powerful example of how to live out this big idea of rejoicing in the Lord always. So how can we rejoice in the Lord at all times?
Here are three practical steps:
Step One: Pray and give thanks.
When we pray to God and express our gratitude for all He has done, it helps us to keep our focus on Him.
The Bible says that in all things, we should give thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
So give thanks in all circumstances and pray that God will give you joy in the midst of your trials.
Step Two: Be filled with the Spirit.
The Bible says that the fruit of the Spirit includes joy (Galatians 5:22).
We should ask the Holy Spirit to fill us with His joy every day. Then as we go about our daily tasks, we can find joy in our work and in life’s moments.
Step Three: Look to Jesus.
In John 15:11 Jesus says, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
When we look to Jesus and take refuge in Him, it brings us joy and peace. No matter our circumstances, Jesus is our source of joy and hope (Romans 15:13).
Let’s remember to rejoice in the Lord at all times. By praying and giving thanks, being filled with the Spirit, and looking to Jesus, we can find joy even in difficult situations.
Let’s go forth and live out this big idea today!
