The Salvation Army’s territorial Congress preparations are at an advanced stage with more than 10 000 salvationists expected to throng Glamis Arena from 20 to 23 July 2023.
Speaking ahead of the congress, the Salvation Army territorial commander for Zimbabwe, Botswana and Madagascar commissioner Wayne Bungay revealed that the congress has been a norm for the denomination since 165 years ago with the motive of bringing the soldiers together to strategise, prepare and reenergize for the kingdom harvest with this year’s edition said to be one of it’s kind after COVID-19 disruptions.
Commissioner Bungay added that the congress will be running under the theme “from strength to action-together” which draws inspiration from Haggai 2 vs 4 with the speakers being General Brian Peddle, Commissioner Rosalie Peddle and Commissioners Wayne and Deborah Bungay.
“We have the motive for the army and it’s good for the army to come together to strategise, prepare and reenergise and go out into the battlefield, so that’s the idea of the congress to bring people together to inspire and refresh them. So we have the disciples of Jesus Christ who are senior soldiers and junior soldiers, we will be inspiring for them to accompany, hear the gospel and be able to sing, praise and celebrate and go back into the mission field all around this country, Botswana and Madagascar to preach the good news of Jesus Christ.
“With the big shut down in 2020 and 2021 caused by COVID-19, we were also impacted as the salvation army so we felt a need in January 2022 to bring people together as COVID-19 started to disappear and so we came up with a theme from the book of Haggai which says be strong, work hard, rebuild the temple of the Lord and has seen us achieving a lot in building and mission projects. So now out of that theme, as we come together for a congress the current theme means that we are now strong because of what we have done in the last one and half years,we now even want to do greater actions for the Lord and his gospel but we need to do that together, “said Bungay

Meanwhile Commissioner Bungay assured that they were praying for peace in the country ahead of 23 August polls.
“It’s pre-campaign for national elections in August, let me say as the Salvation Army church we are praying for peaceful campaigns, by the way the general will meet the president on July 20 and we are looking forward to that gathering, that we want to assure the president that we are praying for the whole country.
“The Salvation Army in non-political but will will work alongside any government for the relief of suffering humanity within any nation and we see the government as partners in the gospel,”he added
Registrations for the congress are underway in all Salvation Army churches in the country and will also be done at the entrance points.
