United Strongman Club fights drug abuse through fitness in Highfield

The United Strongman Club (USC), under the leadership of Black Moses is championing a campaign against drug abuse under the theme “No to Drugs, Yes to Fitness.”

The club, founded by Chido Maenzanise, aims to give back to the Highfield community where she was raised.

“I’m doing this to give back to the community because I grew up in Highfield, and most of the kids in this program are from here,” Maenzanise said.

USC is inclusive of all age groups and abilities, with programs catering to children, youth, and people living with disabilities.

“No to drugs and yes to fitness, as we’re moving with that theme, I also have the Youths of my age and those who are disabled” she added.

Under the guidance of Coach Lee and the leadership of Black Moses, the club is actively working to steer youth away from drug abuse through structured physical training and mentorship.

“We’re trying to remove kids from drugs because most of them fall into substance abuse due to idleness,” said Coach Lee, who trains the youth at the USC.

The program is part of a broader strategy that includes the “Catch Them Young” concept, which targets children early to instill discipline, purpose, and healthy habits.

“We’ve introduced the ‘Catch Them Young’ concept to fight drug abuse in the Highfield community. Chido Maenzanise is leading this initiative,” said Black Moses.

With drug abuse deeply affecting Zimbabwean youth, USC’s campaign offers both a preventative and rehabilitative solution, raising awareness and giving young people a constructive alternative through sport and fitness.
