According to ZimStats(2022) women constitute 54% of the Zimbabwean population, a result which calls for improved service delivery and increased empowerment initiatives for women in the country.
The government of Zimbabwe has always been working tirelessly to empower women through various programmes among them being the Gender economic empowerment measures which include the implementation of the UNDP-assisted Gender Responsive Economic Policy Management Initiative (GERPMI); a framework for gender-responsive budgeting (GRB);a variety of economic empowerment loan facilities with flexible credit terms.
The Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank has since been established which has so far benefited several women who managed to establish their self-sustaining projects.
The Zimbabwe Council of Churches recently supported Mubatanidzwa weMadzimai(Greater Mutare ZCC women) who gathered in Mutare with crucial health services to 350 women.
Some of the key areas that have been discussed during the empowerment session include family planning awareness,Tuberculosis screening and albinism support among others.
The session was also supported by other partners that include Population Services Zimbabwe (PSZ) and Stop TB Partnership.
