Recently, 12 lead farmers, part of the CFGB/UCC funded Humanitarian Early Recovery and Development program from Gutu and Bikita Districts, embarked on a learning visit to the farm of the late water harvesting expert, Mr. Zephaniah Phiri Maseko, in Zvishavane.
During the visit, farmers gleaned insights into diverse water harvesting techniques such as sand traps, catch dams, infiltration pits, dead-level contours, underground water tanks, and support water conveyance systems.
This hands-on experience equips farmers to implement similar systems in their respective areas and encourages peer-to-peer knowledge exchange.
This initiative becomes particularly crucial amid the harsh El Nino effects affecting Zimbabwe, emphasising the urgency to harvest and conserve every precious drop of water.
The ZCC’s proactive approach exemplifies a concerted effort to build climate resilience within local farming communities.
