Yesterday, a comprehensive update on Zimbabwe’s water, sanitation, hygiene, and the ongoing cholera outbreak was provided by government officials in a press meeting.
The event, attended by key figures including Minister of Information Hon Dr. Jenfan Muswere and Minister of Health and Child Care Hon. Dr Douglas Mombeshora, aimed to shed light on collaborative efforts to control the crisis.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care successfully secured Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) from the International Coordinating Group on Vaccine Provision.
The vaccination campaign is set to commence on January 29, 2024, targeting hotspot areas in a phased approach.
Dr. Mombeshora outlined the multi-faceted strategy to combat the spread of cholera. Initiatives include the activation of the Incident Management System, establishment of 134 cholera treatment camps and 33 Oral Rehydration Points nationwide, deployment of Rapid Response Teams for on-site treatment, and the launch of Operation Chenesa Harare.
Other measures involve borehole drilling for safe drinking water, community engagement, information dissemination, and the procurement of essential medical supplies.
As of January 24, 2024, Zimbabwe reported 20,446 suspected cholera cases, with 2,324 confirmed cases, 19,711 recoveries, 71 confirmed deaths, and 381 suspected deaths.
