Luke 2:11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Our Saviour reigns.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, this evening we celebrate one of the most important holidays of the year, Christmas Eve.
On this night, we remember the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and the joy it brought to the world. As we celebrate this night, we want to focus on the words of Luke 2:11: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
The Bible tells us that Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the city of David, fulfilling the prophecy of Micah 5:2, which states, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
On this night, we celebrate this fulfillment of prophecy and rejoice in the fact that Jesus our Saviour has come to reign over us. So what does it mean for us that Jesus reigns?
We want to consider is that Jesus is our King. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the King who rules with justice, truth, and righteousness.
As Psalm 45:6 says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.”
We can trust in Jesus as our King because He is just and righteous.
We also want to consider is that Jesus is our Shepherd.
As we read in Psalm 23, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.”
We can trust in Jesus as our Shepherd because He is compassionate and loving. He will lead us through any storm and provide us comfort and peace.
To add on, we must consider that Jesus is our Friend. As John 15:15 says, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
We can trust in Jesus as our Friend because He has made Himself known to us and has revealed His love for us through His death on the cross.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, on this special night, let us rejoice in the fact that Jesus our Saviour reigns. Let us trust in Him as our King, Shepherd, and Friend. Let us be filled with the joy of Christmas as we remember His birth and give thanks for His love and grace.
