Chivhu-based upcoming gospel musician Oben Matsika has started working with the teenagers in the small town with the mandate of instilling good morals in the wake of moral decadence and drug abuse among other ills.
In an interview with ZimGospel Masters, Matsika revealed that young people need something to always occupy their minds so that they would not be tempted to entertain negative thoughts as it is commonly said the idle mind is the workshop of the devil.

He further said music has been used to unite young people,to encourage them to work hard and to be patriotic hence the composition of their song titled Great Zimbabwe, which among other things encourages young people to be proud of their nation.
“Living in the small town where usually programmes and campaigns for young people are rarely conducted,as a youth and gospel musician i have seen it wise to introduce music as a tool to educate young people about obedience and good morals.
“I believe that if they get occupied by coming and doing music together, they get entertainment and will not even be influenced by bad things. When i spend time with them I also have time to teach them about drug and substance abuse. So my desire is to even work with all teenagers in the area so that they can develop artistic skills,” said Matsika.
Matsika further said that music was also a good way to make teenagers better understand the word of God.
“We already did a song titled Tiende which is all about spreading the word of repentance. I believe that if young people continue hearing positive messages about the word of God, surely they will grow up with the word and liking the Christian way,” he added
According to the Zimbabwe Civil Liberties and Drugs Network (2019) report, the proportion of young people involved in DSA increased from 43% to 2017 to 57% in 2019.
