According to Mr. Francis Gadzikwa, Chairperson of the Gwanda Adventist Primary School Development Committee, the decision to embark on this project was driven by the pressing need for additional accommodation.
“The school was established in 2016 with an enrollment of 89, which has since surged to 272,” Mr. Gadzikwa explained. “We also have a waiting list of more than 100 pupils who want to join us, but because of limited space, we can’t accommodate them.”
The construction project is being undertaken in collaboration with Hualong Construction Private Limited, a reputable contractor known for its commitment to quality and timely delivery.
Funding for the project is sourced from a special levy paid by parents, reflecting a community-driven approach to addressing educational infrastructure needs.
The groundbreaking ceremony, attended by local officials and community leaders, was marked by expressions of support and optimism for the project’s impact on education in the region.
Dr. Evelyn Ndlovu, Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, praised the initiative, highlighting its role in enhancing the quality of education and contributing to the realization of national development goals.
In addition to providing much-needed learning space, the new complex is expected to facilitate the delivery of inclusive and equitable education, aligning with the vision of Vision 2030.
Pastor Bongani Ndlovu, President of the SDA South Zimbabwe Conference, reiterated the church’s commitment to holistic development and community empowerment through education.
