Mission schools in Zimbabwe have remained a dependable pillar in Zimbabwean education system as evidenced by high pass rates in the 2025 Zimsec examinations. Being known for instilling strong values and discipline, and offering spiritual guidance, have shown a remarkable exponential academic excellence.

The Anglican run St Faith High School in Rusape, the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe (MCZ)-run, Waddilove High School in Marondera, Mashonaland East province, The Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) run Nyashanu High school in Buhera, The Salvations Army run Bradley High and Mazowe High schools in Mashonaland, St Francis Xavier’s Kutama College run by the Roman Catholic in Mashonaland West province and many more mission schools around Zimbabwe scored exceptionally in quantity and quality passes of 100% in Ordinary and Advanced Levels.

The excellent results are attributed to comprehensive curriculum a learning enabling environment with better facilities like libraries, science laboratories and sports facilities. The role of the supportive parents and hard work by academic and ancillary staff is exceptional for a holistic approach to education. This has resulted in making mission schools models of excellence.

At Waddilove High School, statistics are pleasing showing great strides in quality and quantity of pass rates with 56 candidates scoring 15 points and above with the highest attaining 25 points in the just released Zimsec Advanced Level results in comparison  to 55 who produced the same results in the 2024 academic year. Twenty-seven candidates attained 20 points each in comparison to 10 in the previous year, a sign of great increase with more than a double. To add on to these excellent results, 23 candidates attained 15 points each while 31 of them attained 14 points.

Despite mathematics being a challenge in most schools, 39 out of 63 candidates got As in Pure Mathematics.

At Ordinary level, Waddilove School is on  98,6% in the 2025 Zimsec Ordinary Level results after 209 of the 212 passed five subjects and above with 108 having five As in O Level subjects and above with two candidates scoring 15 As.

“We are happy with the refreshing pass rate at Waddilove High School and other MCZ learning institutions. We attribute the success to both the teaching and non-teaching staff who are working tirelessly for the betterment of the learners,” said Reverend Daniel Muzenda, MCZ Secretary for Education.

Bradley High school scored 100% pass rate at Ordinary and Advanced Level, with celebrations for a century of service this year on cards.

Mission schools have been supporting the government efforts in education since 1859 when formal education was introduced at Inyathi High School by Reverend Robert Moffat. A number of luminaries in Zimbabwe has gone through these mission schools.
