Hailing from the heart of Africa, these fierce competitors have landed in Mumbai, India, ready to intensify their preparations for the monumental event set to unfold in the United Arab Emirates this April.
The Lady Chevrons wasted no time diving into the thick of training upon their arrival in Mumbai, immersing themselves in rigorous sessions and gaining invaluable experience by rubbing shoulders with Indian-based cricket franchises.
Coach Walter Chawaguta leads the charge, guiding his determined squad through every drill and strategy session with precision and focus.
Captain Mary Anne Musonda, the driving force behind the team’s ambition, exudes confidence as she speaks of their preparations.
“It can be anyone on any day,” she declares, “but we just try to control what we can in our bowlers and see where exactly we can bowl to ensure that our opponents are not comfortable on the crease.”
This journey towards global glory is not new to the Lady Chevrons, who laid the groundwork for their campaign by hosting Ireland in a gripping eight-match white ball series last month.
Building on this momentum, they embarked on a two-week training camp last October in preparation for the World Cup Africa qualifiers, held in Uganda the following December.
With eyes set firmly on the prize, Zimbabwe joins a formidable lineup of contenders, including Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, UAE, USA, and Vanuatu, all vying for a coveted spot in the pinnacle event of women’s cricket.
But the Lady Chevrons’ aspirations extend beyond the World Cup qualifiers. With determination etched in their hearts, they also set their sights on the African Games, poised to make their mark in Ghana next month.
