In a spirited effort to promote social unity and foster community cohesion, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development, and Vocational Training, supported by Act for Peace (AFP), organized a Sports for Peace tournament on May 11, 2024. persons (IDPs) from the Runyararo community in Chimanimani district.

Held at Chayamiti Primary School, the event brought together host communities and internally displaced
The tournament featured football, volleyball, and netball teams, engaging participants in friendly competition and sportsmanship. These Sports for Peace tournaments are part of the ZCC’s broader initiatives to strengthen social bonds and bridge social divisions in IDP communities in Runyararo and Tongogara.
By using sports as a unifying force, the ZCC aims to create a sense of belonging and mutual respect among community members, fostering a harmonious and inclusive environment. The event at Chayamiti Primary School was a testament to the power of sports in bringing people together, transcending differences, and building lasting relationships.
