Born on 16 May 1999 and grew up in the suburbs of Harare, Afro-fusion fast emerging gospel singer Minister Tatenda Sanyika began his journey in the arts industry as a member of the dance crew which would dance on various occasions such as parties and conferences. He later reshaped his career into becoming a full-time gospel singer whose desire lies on advancing the kingdom of God especially to the emerging generation which seems to have been carried away by the earthly things.
When the dance crew he was working with went dormant, the hunger in him to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ began to torment him, a situation which led him to start writing songs basing on the sermons that he would hear from other preachers and the life experience that he went through when he was growing up.
In an interview with ZimGospel Masters magazine, Minister Sanyika said that the main message carried by his music aims to encourage young people to work hard, to remind the emerging generation that their bodies should be preserved and not to be wasted to drugs, sexual immorality and other filthy things since they are the temples of the Holy Spirit.
“After I had a terrible situation in my life that almost took my life, I realized that we do not have much time here on earth and we have to fully utilize that little time that we have to serve the Lord.
“So when I began to sing gospel music, my main aim has always been to preach the word of righteousness to my peers, reminding them that they should be living a life that pleases God. So with my genre, Afro-fusion it is very easy to capture the attention of young people.
“My main message focuses on advising the youths to desist from drug abuse, sexual immorality and drunkenness. Nothing comes on a silver platter but as a youth you have to work. Working does not solely mean that you must have a formal job but you have to find something to do that will enable you to get a living for example one can sell or do self-sustaining projects. Moreover I use my music to express how grateful I am to God for the second chance that he has given me, “said Sanyika
Minister Sanyika believe that his music will bring a positive impact to the youth as it addresses the real time events.
He further highlighted his plans to launch an initiative which will be a sort of a reach out campaign, getting into communities with anti-drug abuse campaigns.
“I believe that my music matches this era as it seeks to address real issues that are affecting the youths.
“By the grace of God with resources permitting, I have plans to start moving around communities, gathering youths together, doing live shows and programs that are mainly focusing on preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and keeping them in the right track, “he added.
He revealed that he has always been inspired by Minister Michael Mahendere.
Meanwhile, one of the youths Monalisa Charakupa who shared her expressions about Minister Sanyika’s music said “The music is very powerful. It speaks to the soul hence becomes effective to control and guide us as young people along the right path. I feel motivated by the message that minister always preaches that as young people we should work so that we can have better lives, “she said
Minister Sanyika so far released four single tracks which are Thank you (2023),I believe(2023),Blessings for eternal (2024) and Yahweh (2024).
