Growing up in the area of Chitungwiza realising how drug and substance abuse has been destroying the future of young people, Lameck “Danim Wengomah” Murewa developed great zeal to launch an anti-drug abuse campaign which he finally in the year of 2024 successfully executed using “mbira music” as the advocacy tool.

In his message unpacking the vision, Murewa vowed his unending efforts towards snatching drug addicts from the dark and to raise awareness in his current residential area of Ruwa, in order to avoid further rot.
He revealed that he will be releasing pieces of music and moving around the community gatherings young people, play mbira and educate them about the dangers of drugs.
“The future of our country is in these young people. I have realised that many of young people are falling victims to the ill due to peer pressure and lack of knowledge. Drugs have caused a lot of dangers in many societies which among others include the spread of STIs and thuggery.
“As a youth I have seen it easier for my message to be accepted by my peers hence I have begun educating them about the dangers of taking drugs while encouraging them to work for a living,” said Murewa.
He further expressed that his music is also concerned about teaching the young people about Ubuntu and the significance of preserving the moral fabric as Zimbabweans.
“The use of technology, drugs and other social pressures have put our moral fabric on danger. There is a lot of moral decadence in the society and especially today’s generation has abandoned good morals so I am also through music reviving good norms. You will realise that in my music I’m teaching young people to be united, preserve peace, obeying and respecting their parents,” he added.
Lameck Murewa has so far released an Extended Play (EP) with three songs which include “Gamuchirai” and “Yeuka”.

Statistics in Zimbabwe, show that youths (who are below the age of 35) constitute 67.7% of the country’s population and the key findings indicate that prevalence of drug abuse is at 57% among young people, the most commonly abused drugs and substances are marijuana and alcohol.
