Albinism awareness campaigns gathered momentum with local top gospel musicians participated this Saturday in Harare gardens on the Flames of Worship Gospel Concert, a concert which was organised by Albinism Network Zimbabwe (ANZ) towards fundraising for the albinism constituency.
The concert intensified albinism awareness through music with more concerts lined up for the country’s ten provinces and comes in the month of albinism awareness across the globe under the theme “Inclusion is Strength”.
Minister Michael Mahendere, Pastor Charles and Olivia Charamba and Pastor Trymore Bande were lined up for the performance.
Speaking before the concert, Albinism Network Zimbabwe President Blessing Chikuhwa revealed that the concert was meant to raise awareness about albinism in the country and to mobilise resources which were going to assist the vulnerable group of the albinism society.
“As an organization our principle is that we put God first so one of our albinism awareness campaign strategy in the country are gospel concerts. This concert is also a fundraising campaign to assist our brothers and sisters who are prone to cancer and to pay schools fees for the underprivileged children.
“People with albinism come from broken families due to myths and misconceptions from the society about albinism, so we want to cater for all the victims and provide best learning material for the children,” he said
The concert ran concurrently with some activities which included jumping castles for kids and social interactions and entrance for people with albinism was free.
Meanwhile, Chikuhwa called for all parts of the society to speak with one voice in advocating for the empowerment, inclusion and employment opportunities for people with albinism.
“I would like to appeal to the members of the public that let’s unite to scale up inclusivity and employment opportunities for the group, we are capable of excelling,” he added
The concert will run from 11 o’clock in the morning until 5 o’clock in the evening with other musical groups such as Denga Ratinhira, Vabvuwi and Mabasa Avatumwa also performed.
