In a significant stride against drug-related crimes, the Zimbabwean government has received state-of-the-art anti-narcotics laboratory equipment valued at over US$100,000 from the People’s Republic of China.
The handover, orchestrated by the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Zhou Ding, took place at the CID Headquarters in Harare on Thursday.

The sophisticated anti-narcotics laboratory equipment, capable of identifying drugs and their accompanying substances in suspected samples, was officially handed over to the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Ambassador Zhou Ding emphasized China’s commitment to fostering international cooperation for a secure, multipolar world, expressing the intention to collaborate with Zimbabwe in addressing shared challenges and promoting prosperity.
ZRP Commissioner General Godwin Matanga and the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, expressed deep appreciation for the equipment.
This donation comes at a crucial time as Zimbabwe intensifies its efforts to combat drug and substance abuse.
Minister Kazembe Kazembe emphasized the importance of the equipment in the fight against drug abuse, citing its potential to strengthen law enforcement agencies’ capacity to identify drugs and enhance detection levels.
He highlighted the adverse effects of drug abuse on society, particularly among the youth, and commended the partnership between Zimbabwe and China in addressing this critical issue.
Acknowledging the Republic of China’s continuous support, Commissioner General Godwin Matanga referred to the handover as a testament to the strong relationship between the two nations.
He underlined the government’s commitment to mitigating the severe consequences of drug and substance abuse and commended China for its pivotal role in supporting Zimbabwe’s anti-narcotics initiatives.
To further intensify its anti-drug campaign, the Zimbabwean government has established a national committee dedicated to eradicating this social menace.
