“Establishing a business is a tall order and statistics show that more than 80% of small ventures fail, hence there is need for consistency, due diligence and hard work.
“Most entrepreneurs meet their waterloo as soon as they start business. They spend money on themselves more than they spend money on their business. Keep as much money for your business as you can. Your product or business should see more money than your personal needs, that is fiscal prudence now”, said Mr. Hodges
Mr. Hodges, who has 31 years’ experience in banking said business play an important role in driving economic growth in a country, given their potential to fresh ideas and new perspectives to the market place, all of which drive Innovation and competitiveness.
He also spoke broadly on how Zimbabwe is a consumerist country, where committed entrepreneurs especially those in manufacturing are bound to succeed. Zimbabwe do not make many products, that is why we find ourselves importing even very little things, we just buy and buy, so you stand a good chance to prosper if you are making some basic goods needed in everyday life.
Pastor Venon Tapuwanashe Chamba expressed the need for the church to focus on equipping their congregants with skills.
“I decided to come up with the seminar because the Bible says, ‘My people perish because of lack of knowledge’ (Hosea 4:6). Many churches nowadays have ignored the idea of teaching, training, equipping people with information and knowledge. They are now focusing on things like healing, prophecies, casting out devils which is a reason why a lot of Christians are suffering because once they are delivered they lack information on how to make money and be successful in life. They end up thinking that money is a miracle when it is a reward that you get after working or doing business.” said Chamba.
