In a concerted effort to address pressing environmental challenges, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) recently convened a Provincial commemoration of Africa Environment Day in Matabeleland South.
The event, held in the form of an Indaba, centered on sustainable land management with a particular focus on gulley rehabilitation.

Taking place at the Hingwe Business Centre in Bulilima District, the gathering attracted various stakeholders from government ministries, civil society organizations, and local communities.
The theme for the day, “Sustainable Land Management for a Resilient Future,” underscored the urgency of adopting environmentally sustainable practices to ensure long-term resilience in the face of mounting environmental threats.
Leading the discussions was Mr. O. Zogara, the Bulilima District Development Coordinator, who emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing environmental degradation.
Participants engaged in robust dialogues aimed at finding innovative solutions to the challenges posed by gully erosion, a pressing issue affecting many communities in the region.
The choice of venue for the Indaba was symbolic, as Bulilima District has been significantly impacted by land degradation and erosion, highlighting the relevance of the theme to the local context.
Through shared insights and expertise, stakeholders explored strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of gully erosion and promote sustainable land management practices.
