The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has named Norman Mapeza as the interim head coach of the men’s national team for the upcoming four-nations tournament in Malawi.
Mapeza, a former national team captain and the current head coach of Zimbabwe Premier League side FC Platinum, steps in to replace Portuguese mentor Baltemar Brito.

Brito’s contract was not renewed at the end of last year, paving the way for Mapeza’s appointment.
The ZIFA Normalisation Committee expressed their confidence in Mapeza’s ability to lead the team, citing his extensive experience both as a player and a coach.
“ZIFA is pleased to announce that Norman Mapeza has been appointed as the interim head coach of the men’s Zimbabwe national team, for the upcoming four-nations tournament in Malawi,” read a statement by ZIFA.
The tournament, scheduled to take place in Lilongwe from the 18th to the 26th of March, will see Zimbabwe compete against hosts Malawi, Kenya, and Zambia.
Mapeza, who has previously served as head coach of the national team, brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the role.
Mapeza will be supported by Takesure Chiragwi, the head coach of Ngezi Platinum Stars, as the assistant coach.
Together, they aim to guide the Zimbabwean team to success in the invitational tournament and showcase the country’s footballing talent on the regional stage.
