The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has officially confirmed that the 2024 Castle Lager Premiership season will commence on February 24.
The highly anticipated campaign will kick off with the Castle Lager Challenge Cup showdown between league champions Ngezi Platinum Stars and Chibuku Super Cup winners Dynamos.
Scheduled to take place at Baobab Stadium in Ngezi, the match is set to start at 2 pm CAT. Originally slated for an earlier date, the encounter was rescheduled to accommodate logistical considerations.
Following the Challenge Cup, the league will begin the following weekend in March, marking an earlier start to the season than usual.
PSL Chairman Farai Jere explained the decision, stating, “Our clubs are set to participate in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup tournaments, and we also have our national team engagements this year. We want them to focus on their commitments without overlapping with domestic league fixtures. Hence, we’ve opted for an earlier start to the league in February.”
This strategic shift aims to provide ample space for clubs and players to balance both domestic and continental competitions while ensuring the smooth running of the league schedule.
With anticipation building ahead of the Castle Lager Challenge Cup and the subsequent league kickoff, football enthusiasts eagerly await the start of what promises to be an exhilarating season of top-tier football action.
