WOMEN in Agriculture Union (WAU) founder and chief executive officer, Olga Nhari, said she was happy with the number of women who attended the agribusiness conference held in Harare to mark International Women’s Month.
Nhari told ZimGospel Masters that the event was successful and she was amazed by the number of women farmers who attended the conference.
“The event was a successful. We were celebrating women farmers and the turnout was actually more than we expected. We were expecting 100 to 120 people but we ended up exceeding 150 participants,” she said. Nhari expessed joy at seeing the women farmers celebrating their successes rather than complaining about the challenges the faced.
“Gone are the days when we discussed problems only. Women are now solving their problems. They are now coming up with solutions and today was evident of that, hearing the testimonies, seeing exhibitions of women farmers that are making it…
It shows that women are successfully doing it,” she said. The conference was running under theme “Taking Innovation and Technology to Women Farmers.”
The theme resonated with the International Women’s Day theme “Innovation and Technology for Gender Equity.” Special guests also attended the conference include Tofara Tyokera, ICT guru who spoke on Innovation and Technology for Women.
She said women farmers must embrace the digital world that they are living under and she also told them to adopt new techonologies. Another guest, Sibusisiwe Sibango, taught the delegates about the entreprenual mindset in farming.
She said since some farmers were operating under a challenging macro-economic environment, there was need for them to know how to prepare in advance and how best to manage difficult situations.
