Renowned Zimbabwean gospel music icon, Baba Machanic Manyeruke, added another feather to his cap on Saturday as he received the prestigious Leadership Excellence Award from the Global Heralds of Excellence and Integrity.

Reflecting on the recognition, Baba Manyeruke humbly stated, “I am truly honored and grateful to receive this award. It’s a testament to the power of music to inspire and uplift communities.”
Known for his dedication to both gospel music and community service, Baba Manyeruke continues to make a significant impact. He currently serves as a stalwart at the Chitungwiza Citadel in the Harare Eastern Division, where he extends his leadership beyond the realm of music.
In 2019, Baba Manyeruke was previously honored with the Living Legend Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award, underscoring his enduring influence in the music industry.
Having announced his retirement from the gospel discography last year after an illustrious career that spanned over 25 albums with his band, the Puritans, Baba Manyeruke remains a respected figure in the Zimbabwean music landscape.
Reflecting on his musical journey, Baba Manyeruke shared, “Music has been my lifelong passion, and it’s heartening to see the positive impact it can have on people’s lives.”
Born on August 16, 1942, in Chiwundura Village, Gweru, Baba Manyeruke’s musical journey dates back to his formative years at St Patrick’s, where he started exploring his musical talents.
Initially venturing into secular music, Baba Manyeruke recorded his debut single in 1969, and by 1973, he collaborated on an album with the iconic Four Brothers. His transition to gospel music reached a milestone in 1984 with the release of his first album, “Zakeyo,” backed by the Puritans.

As the accolades continue to pour in, Zimbabwe celebrates the enduring legacy of Baba Manyeruke, a musical maestro whose contributions extend beyond melodies to embody leadership and excellence. In response to the congratulatory messages, he expressed gratitude, saying, “Makorokoto! Amhlophe! Thank you for the continued support, and may music continue to unite and uplift us all.”
