As the sun set over Bindura, a sense of anticipation filled the air. Youths from all walks of life gathered at MCZ church, eager to confront the giant of fear that had held them back for far too long. Rev Svodziwa, Pastor in charge of youths in the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, stood before them, his voice ringing out with a message of hope and empowerment. “Fearless and Forward” was the theme of the night, and the atmosphere was electric with expectation.
Rev Svodziwa emphasized that fear is a pervasive issue in today’s world, affecting every aspect of life. He encouraged the youths to recognize that God has not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). The pastor highlighted the story of David and Goliath, illustrating how fear can hold people back from achieving their destiny and dreams.
The story of David and Goliath is a powerful example of how fear can grip a nation. When the giant Goliath emerged from the Philistine camp, the Israelites were paralyzed with fear. They saw themselves as grasshoppers compared to the giant, and they forgot that they were the chosen people of God. For 40 days, Goliath taunted them, and they were unable to respond.
But then David, a young shepherd boy, arrived on the scene. He was not intimidated by Goliath’s size or strength. Instead, he remembered the times God had delivered him from the jaws of lions and bears. He knew that God was with him, and that gave him the courage to face the giant.
David’s faith and courage inspired the Israelites to overcome their fear. They began to see themselves as God’s people, capable of overcoming any obstacle. With David leading the charge, they defeated the Philistines and claimed victory.
Rev Svodziwa encouraged the youths to learn from David’s example. “When we face our own Goliaths, we must remember that God is with us,” he said. “We must not let fear hold us back from achieving our destiny and dreams. We must be fearless and forward, trusting in God’s power and love.”
The all-night event was a testament to the power of faith and the importance of overcoming fear. Rev Svodziwa’s message inspired and motivated the attendees to stand firm in their faith and trust in God’s love and power. As one attendee remarked, “I feel empowered to face my fears and challenges head-on, knowing that God is with me.”
Rev Svodziwa’s leadership has been instrumental in bringing together youths from different denominations, promoting unity and Ubuntu (humanity) in the Christian body. The Zimbabwe Council of Churches has been actively working to empower youths in Bindura district through various programs, including counseling and income-generating initiatives.
The success of the all-night event demonstrates the impact of Rev Svodziwa’s message and the Zimbabwe Council of Churches’ efforts to address the challenges faced by youths in Bindura district. As the church continues to provide a safe space for youths to gather, learn, and grow, it is clear that the power of faith and unity will continue to transform lives.
