As the UK Worship night draws closer, with a number of Zimbabwean musicians including Takesure Zamar Ncube, Dorcas Moyo, Sharon Manatsa and Yeukai Washe Mhandire lined up to perform at the event.
ZimGospel Masters engaged with some of the musicians who usually stage international shows and concerts. Award-winning gospel musician and songwriter, Sharon Manatsa, who is based in United Kingdom, said promoters usually choose the artiste depending on their targeted audience.
“Usually, the promoters choose the artistes depending on their targeted audience. International shows are always good for exposure and diversity reaching out to other audiences and usually artistes get paid as per their charge, fee or contract or according to what they agree on with the promoters,” she said.
Manatsa said while audiences differed depending on circumstances, the majority of those who attended their shows where Zimbabwean nationals in the Diaspora.
“The issue of attendees depends on where the event is. If it’s a concert venue or church venue it varies. However mostly Zimbabweans attend such shows featuring Zimbabwean artistes, but you also have other nationalities from time to time,” she said.
While UK based, gospel songbird and the founder of Yeukai Foundation who is also going to perform at Legendary Night in Concert show which was organised in May by Dr. Rebecca Malope, Yeukai Washe Mhandire said the audiences were mainly people from Southern Africa.
“The audiences are made up mainly of people from Southern Africa or the Africans, but because of different ethnic groups, you will sometimes see an Asian, a white person, but about 70 percent of the people are black British or black Africans,” she said.
“It differs with the fans of the selected musician, like the recent show that we had last month, 60 percent of the audiences were the mixture of whites, young black British, Americans and Canadians.”
